The UVG, in partnership with the Wedgewood Rooms and Portsmouth Festivities, are co-hosting this years 'All About the Song', a premiere song writing competition for emerging young musicians. Since 2009, this competition has been showcasing the fantastic local song writing talent in the Portsmouth area, and this year, its 10th anniversary, is going to be bigger and better than before. The competition offers £600 worth of prizes including, a mentoring session with a professional musician, photography shoot, valuable song writing experiences, recording your track in a professional studio and releasing it on all digital platforms.
Who can enter?
All About the Song is open to young songwriters aged 13 to 21 (with at least one person living in the PO postcode area). The song can be co-written and also does not need to be performed by the composer/s (i.e. you can use other musicians both on the recording and at the Heats / Finals if you get through.)
How to enter?
E-mail email@example.com and put 'All About The Song' as the subject matter. Please include your name / band name and the title of the composition. You can attach the track as an mp3 or include a link to a website e.g. YouTube / Facebook/ Soundcloud / Bandcamp. Please also also verify your age, home address, post code and a contact phone number. Lastly, please let us know if you are not available on any of the following dates:
Venue - Edge of The Wedge

The Final will be held at The Wedgewood Rooms on Tuesday 19th June
Other important info
A maximum of three performers will be allowed on stage together. It’s vital that the song is heard and not overshadowed by too much instrumentation so no drum kits are allowed during the heats or the finals (although Cajons are permitted), so you may want to take this into consideration when submitting your recorded track.
